Focus points of platework

To call balls and strikes effectively as an umpire, focus on consistency, clarity, and confidence. Position yourself in the slot with your head level to the strike zone for a clear view. Take your time before making a call, ensuring accuracy without rushing. Be consistent in your strike zone throughout the game, regardless of external pressures. Use a loud, confident voice to announce “Strike” or “Ball,” with clear hand signals for strikes and none for balls. Stay focused on the pitcher, the ball, and the zone for every pitch to maintain fairness and professionalism.
